BORN TO BLOOM: Maternal and Infant Occupational Therapy was founded in 2023 by Libby Skolnik M.S. OTR/L, CEIM* to support and empower mamas, nurture infant development and create maternal community building. ✨FOR THE MAMAS✨OT’s role in Maternal Health:• Addressing the physical, emotional and occupational needs of women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. What it looks like: •Parenting skills and support•Preparing for motherhood•Addressing musculoskeletal concerns•Mental Health + Wellbeing•Postpartum Rehabilitation ✨FOR THE BABIES✨OT’s role in infant development: •Addressing various aspects of baby’s sensory, motor and cognitive skills to foster development What it looks like: •Educating parents on their child’s individual growth utilizing developmental screening, observation and assessment •Providing parents with proactive and habilitative therapy interventions tailored to meet their child where they are and help prevent and/or remediate delays in development✨FOR THE COMMUNITY✨Offering classes/workshops/meetups that promote maternal wellness, mother-infant bonding and infant development to promote maternal camaraderie and community building. Acute care/NICU

-Evaluate and treat infants with a variety of diagnoses which may affect the following systems: family and psychosocial, neurodevelopment, neuromotor, neurobehavioral, musculoskeletal, sensory, oral motor and feeding/swallowing.-Educate nursing and other NICU staff regarding therapy in the NICU, premature infant development, developmentally supportive care, role of therapy in the NICU, and oral feeding practice.-Establish a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient/family. -Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits. -Plan and/or assist with patient discharge from therapy services and treatment setting.-Provide information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support programs.-Participate in rounds and care conferences

-Evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions via direct patient care including but not limited to: critical care, neurologic, cardiac, orthopedic, GI and pulmonary. -Administer a treatment program with specific goals determined according to the patient's capacity and tolerance with reassessment conducted PRN-Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team -Educate patients and family members on diagnosis, injury prevention and therapeutic treatments -Train and orient new occupational therapist’s as well as other rehab staff-Lead patient education classes including: total joint replacements, spinal surgeries and “Breath Easy” pulmonology rehab
