Machine Learning Engineering Manager

Denver, Co, Us

Machine Learning Team Lead

Palo Alto, Ca, Us

I'm leading a team of talented ML engineers developing cutting-edge computer vision models for analyzing critical power grid infrastructure. We are building models for inventorying components, detecting defects, assessing the proximity of nearby vegetation, detecting human & animal intrusions into closed areas, and so much more. We are leveraging advancements in deep learning and generative AI to enhance model accuracy and robustness in addition to developing production ready Python libraries for managing the full ML lifecycle from data annotation to model conceptualization / training to production inference. Key Contributions/Projects:● Directing the development of a multi-stage active learning pipeline for labeling hundreds of thousands of images using "machine in the loop" approaches to vector human annotators to the best pockets of data for labeling. ● Managing the research and development of a multi-stage computer vision pipeline for object detection, classification and defect perception that can assess several dozen power grid components for a multitude of complex defects and points of failure.● Spearheading the use of generative AI approaches for synthesizing novel component defects for improving model robustness.● Developed a learned approach for assessing image quality for filtering out substandard images prior to running through computer vision inference pipelines.● Developed techniques and models for combining drone image metadata with object detection models to infer real world dimensions of critical components (cross arm lengths, mounting heights, vegetation proximity, ...).
