  • Alaska Longline Fishermen'S Association
    Program Coordinator
    Alaska Longline Fishermen'S Association Sep 2021 - Jan 2024
    Sitka, Alaska, United States
Coordinated ALFA's Seafood Donation Program, Alaskans Own Community Supported Fishery (think - a CSA but for fish), and the Fishery Conservation Network's data driven programs, including bathymetric data sharing, electronic logbook piloting, and electronic monitoring testing. For ALFA's sister organization, the Alaska Sustainable Fisheries Trust, I managed a $1.5 million loan program which offered PRI loans to emerging fishermen to purchase IFQ. Authored and presented narrative and financial grant reports quarterly. Cross-trained in basic QuickBooks bookkeeping.ALFA is a non-profit that supports small boat fishermen and their efforts to promote clean and sustainable fishing practices, as well as advocates for environmental stewardship in coastal communities across SE Alaska. As a busy, small organization, my duties were very fluid and I plugged in to many roles to benefit our team and advance our mission. Without direct work experience or education in the tasks I completed, I had to be able to learn on the spot often with minimal or no training in order to be successful. This required self-motivation and the ability to research the issues at hand and develop SOPs for a range of tasks.

  • Alaska Rush Soccer Club
    Director Of Operations
Alaska Rush Soccer Club Jan 2022 - Apr 2023
    Sitka, Alaska, United States
Director of Operations at Sitka Rush Soccer Club, formerly Sitka Youth Soccer. I worked with the Director of Coaching and the board to schedule our seasons, advocate for field time in a community with limited resources, reach out to potential sponsors, recruit and manage volunteers, edited our website and registration links, and monitored the email account to respond to parents quickly. Rush is a non-profit international network of sports clubs. Within Alaska, Rush reaches rural and island communities to enhance soccer opportunities on the local level and provide opportunities for youth to compete in state and national level competitions. While I stepped down from the director position due to the time constraints of working in the fishing industry, I remain on the board and am an active volunteer.
  • United States Soccer Federation
    Grade 7 Referee
United States Soccer Federation Mar 2007 - Dec 2022
Referee all levels of soccer from youth to amateur games. 3x recipient of Oregon Youth Soccer Association awards (TOPSoccer Buddy of the Year 2007; Referee of the Year in 2009 and 2011). 4 seasons refereeing in the PAC-12 conference and 3 seasons as a NISOA official before moving away.In a sport where the rule book is very thin and most calls are subject to the opinion of the referee, I had to skillfully diffuse heated situations by reading the room and adapting my communication style to respond to the players in a manner that would benefit the flow of the game. I gained confidence in making quick, sound decisions based on what the game needed at the time, and when I had a game-changing call to make, I considered the potential consequences and developed mitigation strategies on the spot.
  • Peter Pan Seafoods, Inc.
    Timekeeper
Peter Pan Seafoods, Inc. Jun 2019 - Aug 2020
    Dillingham, Alaska
I spent the summer seasons working 100+ hour weeks as a timekeeper for a 24/7 fish processing facility. I used Kronos to track time for 549 employees and worked closely with production and payroll to problem solve any discrepancies. Linked Kronos to ADP for payroll. Conducted orientation and training in Russian language to Ukrainian H2B employees. I enjoyed working in a fast-paced, diverse environment as the majority of employees came from overseas. When COVID cancelled my summer internship plans, I scrambled to find work that JHU would accept for my Capstone project. I came back to Peter Pan, but in an effort to make things more interesting, I committed to learning as much as I could about the commercial fishing industry. The industry sits at the coalescence of private industry interests (processors) and government (NOAA and ADFG) with a dependence on science, conservation, and salt of the earth hard working fishermen and production workers. The success of the industry requires cooperation between groups who in other fields have competing interests. This compelled me to return to Alaska to further explore what makes this industry unique and if the model is replicable in the harvest, production, and sale of other resource-based commodities.

Peace Corps KG teaches its volunteers Kyrgyz, but I worked diligently to heighten my Russian language skills. I tested out with Advanced-Mid Russian proficiency and Intermediate-High Kyrgyz proficiency on PC LPI exams.
