Cross-trained in basic QuickBooks bookkeeping.ALFA is a non-profit that supports small boat fishermen and their efforts to promote clean and sustainable fishing practices, as well as advocates for environmental stewardship in coastal communities across SE Alaska. Without direct work experience or education in the tasks I completed, I had to be able to learn on the spot often with minimal or no training in order to be successful. The success of the industry requires cooperation between groups who in other fields have competing interests. This compelled me to return to Alaska to further explore what makes this industry unique and if the model is replicable in the harvest, production, and sale of other resource-based commodities. -

I arranged 5-week long volunteer agreements in Iceland and Norway. In Iceland I worked in reception at a family run guesthouse in the northern town of Akureyri and in Norway I took care of 21 Shetland ponies in the western fjords while their owners traveled. -
