• Develop an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based discharging circuit. We use the circuit to heat up electrical ribbons to 800 °C in 10 microsecond and generate dense metallic vapor.• Develop a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) control system. We use the circuit to independently discharge 480 magnetic coils which control the motion of atoms.• Work as a project leader and collaborated with group members with diverse backgrounds.• Supervise multiple graduate students in a team project.

• Implemented a high resolution imaging system. I independently set up an imaging system and characterize the modulation transfer function. Through the optimization process, the imaging system can have 1 micron resolution which is almost in the diffraction limit.• Developed the technique of laser modulation. I independently design an optoelectronic system to phase modulate an optical standing wave. The method allows us to engineer the atomic excitation spectrum.• Developed the technique of projection Bragg spectroscopy. I collaborate with colleagues to create an optical projection system with digital micromirror device. We create dynamic optical pattern for measuring the atomic excitation spectrum.• Supervised summer research projects of two interns. Trained two graduate students in the operation of experimental apparatus.
