The Netherlands eScience Center aims to make every researcher comfortable in writing code and using digital tools for research, from the humanities to physics and beyond. The projects I work on make the Netherlands eScience Center visible in the Dutch academic landscape. I am the coordinator of the eScience Center Fellowship Programme and the editor in chief of our blog. I also lead software development and data analytics projects in our digital skills programme.

I worked on analysing and restructuring a longitudinal dataset on cognitive control training in more than 200 children. I lead a small group of Bachelor and Master students in putting this dataset in BIDS format, wrote analysis plans and uploaded these on the Open Science Framework (OSF). I also analysed behavioural data and preprocessed neuroimaging data. During my time as a postdoc, I was awarded with a Minerva Fast Track Fellowship for promising female scientists.

PhD thesis: Dopamine, decision-making, and aging: Neural and behavioural correlatesOn any given day, we make tons of decisions. These can be as simple as deciding how to dress or what to eat, or more complex, such as whether to spend or invest money. Good decision-making involves being able to select the best alternative from a range of options, and adjust one’s preferences based on what is happening in the environment. As humans get older, their ability to do this changes. Age-related changes in decision-making ability result from changes in brain structure and function, such as the deterioration of the brain’s dopaminergic system in old age. In this thesis, we used a sample of 30 older and 30 younger participants to investigate age-related differences in neural and behavioural correlates of value-based decision-making, which involves making decisions that can result in rewards and punishments. Such decisions are known to rely on dopaminergic functioning. In the brain, we have looked at neural activity reflecting value and reward prediction errors (RPEs), the availability of dopamine D1 receptors, and integrity of white matter microstructure. We analysed behaviour on game-like tasks to disentangle motivational biases and other parameters reflecting parts of the learning process that underlies successful decision-making.

I tutored students as they came up with their own ideas for experiments and guided them while collecting data, analysing the data, and writing up a report. I encouraged the students to think critically about the results and integrate them with existing literature.

I assisted in the purchasing process for employees in a large university and was asked to write an analysis on potential points of improvement in the purchase department.

I prepared tutorials for the courses "Introduction to Psychology" and "Memory", I graded papers and explained the material of the courses to students. I advised students over the course of their writing process.
