Many internationally operating companies face potential issues, such as child labour, forced labour, discrimination, freedom of association or rights of indigenous people to land or health and safety of the environment they live in. A company can contribute to or be linked to these issues via their supply chains. Many companies struggle putting their business principles around these issues into practice. Using my background as a human rights lawyer and over twenty years of experience with CSR and risk management, I provide services varying from training to risk management of international supply chains (both for government as for individual multinationals), developing strategies and programmes to help business use its potential to have a positive impact on people. Some of my latest projects include:- Supporting several multinationals in developing a roadmap for human rights due diligence, including risk management, impact assessment, gap analysis, improving grievance mechanisms- Facilitation of internal and external stakeholder workshops to identify human rights risks- Modern slavery Act implementation- Gender in the financial sector- Assessing the effectiveness of a grievance mechanism for human rights- What does respect for freedom of association look like in garment producing countries such as Bangladesh and Vietnam- Webinars and workshops for companies to understand human rights due diligence- Understanding Freedom of Association in local context for some Unions and multistakeholder initiatives - Setting up the ISV Academy for public procurement (integrating human rights in procurement) for the Dutch government- Developing and supporting the Dutch Child Labour Fund for companies (FBK-RVO)- Advising UNICEF with the implementing of the Child Rights and Business Principles Show less

The underlying idea was that closer ties would promote better use of ILO expertise by private companies, in particular in international operations, and would help them to achieve their business objectives while at the same time fostering the implementation of the Decent Work Agenda. The project also aimed at improving the ILO’s understanding of how it is perceived by companies. As the consultant for the project, I analyzed companies' needs in relation to managing international labour issues and the potential role of the ILO. This was done by interviewing companies, unions, NGOs and other stakeholders and organizing a joined meeting in the Netherlands. Show less
