Iam Laura Nyangasi, Kenyan citizen by birth and Nationaly and found of Light Foundation which is a Non-profitable organization that is out to see to it poor and vulnerable girls get to live a better and apromising life,It is confirmed thaat:Female students face great challenges in terms of hygiene and sanitation. Many schools Kenya in have insufficient numbers of latrines, these is as a result of poorly designed and maintained toilets and wash rooms. For a girl child who’s on her periods, there is a great challenge posed by the inability to afford sanitary towels as well as cultural way wardens around menstruation. These always lead to many girls missing on average four days of school activity every month which is on an average 48 days in a year, hence therefore posing as great challenge, coupled with problems that lead to the high dropout rate of female students in primary and secondary schools.Light foundation is a local nongovernmental organization that has an eye for uplifting the plight of young girl child by raising funds to provide sanitary pads to female students in 47 counties in KenyaSub-city- Kenya. The organization will distribute the pads to almost 4,000 girls in the primary and secondary schools covering a target of 1400 primary schools and 600 secondary schools, encompassing girls from standard 7 pupils to form 4 students as its pilot project. The organization will use female teachers as trainers who will then organize trainings, question-and-answer sessions to give girls on a forum to discuss related issues. Medical staff in the schools will also be instrumental in capacity building the students on hygiene and other related issues. This project will be on-going and is envisioned to address not only girls in major towns within the country but it will also focus on slums and those in rural and marginalized areas of the country.
