My job at Crowley Fleck is that of Floater Assistant; my job is to cover for other assistants who are out on vacation or out sick, to do their work and manage their desks for their timekeepers. I work in all legal departments in Crowley: commercial law, probate law, natural resource law, litigation, worker's compensation and medical malpractice. I also have built positive working relations with all of the attorneys and assistants I work with, nearly 100 people, and maintaing these positive and friendly relationships over the years I have been there. My job requires working in high-stress situations and adapting quickly. I also must be able to communicate clearly and be unafraid to ask questions, as I am most often doing work with which I'm not completely familiar. I enjoy my work immensely! Often others will tell me they could never do what I do; but I am energized and fulfilled by the constant changes, curveballs and surprises. It's rewarding and interesting work!

After seven years of working as the Overflow/Float assistant at Crowley, I am working a regular desk, for attorneys Bill Lamdin, Gary Connelley and Lara Guercio. I now work in very different areas of law than the litigation-heavy work I did before; I am doing financial legal work with Bill Lamdin and family law with Gary Connelley. Our firm's pro bono progam is run by Gary Connelley, and as his assistant I handle intakes, client contact, filings, file administration and whatever else needs done. In addition to the main pro bono program I also coordinate Crowley's second pro bono program, which is mediation of parenting plans. I interview potential clients and determine if matters are suited to our program, set up and open matters and work with attorneys and paralegals to draft the parenting plans and get them filed. I truly enjoy all of the aspects of my work for Bill, Gary and Lara; the financial work demands attention to detail and efficiency, and the pro bono work requires excellent people skills and empathy tempered with professionalism. I am very happy to be working with these attorneys, who are all very good at what they do as well as being all around excellent people. I look forward to continued growth at Crowley in my new position.

I was the legal assistant to four attorneys and their paralegals at Lynaugh Fitzgerald, a personal injury plaintiffs firm. I collected and maintained the clients' records and files, dealing with medical providers and billing agencies, maintaining HIPAA compliant authorizations, organizing and indexing records, reviewing records for further providers, and creating and maintaining records of all billing. I also did multiple other organization projects from creating spreadsheets to closing out old files. I also took intake calls from potential clients, getting basic information and details regarding the potential case which would allow the attorneys to determine if they wanted to pursue the matter. I had a fairly high level of interaction with clients, via phone calls and visits in the office. I worked well with everyone there and enoyed my job every day, and I truly missed it when I left.
