I was responsible for managing customer HW/SW projects: leading the project team, planning and scheduling the tasks and resourcing, handling the requirements, changes and risk management, tracking the budget, and communicating with the customer and the steering group. I led projects of embedded and IoT solutions using agile methods to enable co-design and integration of software, hardware and mechanics into a system.With my team I have delivered a certified control system of embedded electronics and a sensor for a LoRaWAN product. One of our projects includes design of a new industrial sensor device using Edge computing and Azure IoT hub for data handling, control and UI. As a fault coordinator in a 5G physical layer program I have been leading problem solving and gaining understanding of 5G NR development.

I transferred to thermal engineering team after 9 years in project management in reorganization of product lines. I was working for Microsoft Devices team designing solutions for new product concepts in mobile devices. I carried out user comfort study for verifying thermally optimized performance. With production testing team I was developing HW testing in manufacturing environment for thermal components to save time and ensure good quality in mass production. I studied processor and heatpipe performance and options in development environment by measurements and simulations. Microsoft Mobile acquired Nokia smartphone business and I continued my work as project manager. I led a team of HW experts of several areas (baseband, PCB, UI - camera, sensors, display, thermal, production testing and EMC designers) with 20 - 30 people. We delivered smartphone HW Lumia 640 to mass production meeting excellent specs at low cost. I managed HW sub-project deliveries and scheduling and cooperated closely with mechanics, SW and verification teams. I was responsible for specifying HW content for production (PDM) considering flexibility to component availability and design changes and providing HW documentation for type approval and operator approvals. I participated in development of agile project management process. I was also piloting and giving feedback for a new PDM system.

Our team delivered Lumia 1020 "monster camera device" HW fully tested with high quality to mass production and sales start. I led a team of specialists being responsible for electronics design (i.e. baseband, PCB, UI, thermal design, manufacturing testing, EMC, antenna and RF design). I was responsible for consistent HW content in production meeting requirements for certification and component availability.

We delivered a common reference platform for smartphone development at internal teams and external suppliers. I synchronized HW/SW planning and deliveries to internal teams and a supplier and worked in co-operation with European, Chinese and Indian teams in technical and operational issues. I started as a team leader in a phone engine HW (processors, memories, RF, cameras, sensors) project moving to project manager position. The project was refocused several times, but we managed to deliver a verified reference design enabling mass production in schedule. I was responsible for leading people and defining tasks for designers, planning project schedule and budgeting, handling requirements and ensuring overall quality. I worked with colleagues across Europe, a product team in Canada, production in China and multiple component vendors.Project: N96

I started at Nokia Tampere as its first thermal designer setting up the thermal design and measurement practicalities and processes at Tampere office. I designed, implemented and tested user friendly and low cost passive thermal solutions for several phone products. I analyzed thermal performance by FloTHERM, contributed to material selections and power estimations, co-operated with layout design, mechanical design and SW in defining optimized cooling solutions.Projects: N95, 6630, 6680, 5510, 9110, 7650

I started my career as a thermal designer for space electronics at Finnyards, later acquired by Finavitec and then by Patria. I was responsible for thermal performance of electronic units, which were delivered to satellite programs (Eos, Rosetta and Cluster) approved by European Space Agency ESA. I analyzed thermal solutions by ESATAN and ESARAD. I planned and executed thermal measurements and regulatory testing at certification labs. I also managed and commissioned ESA supervised Surface Mount Device SMD production line, which was taken into use in production at Patria.

I did my Master's in space electronics at VTT. After that I joined VTT as a research scientist. I planned and executed environmental (thermal and mechanical) tests of space and consumer electronics according to official standards. My research area of expertise was thermal transfer in space and simulation of space environment. Before graduation I worked as a trainee for 1.5 years at VTT environmental testing.
