Arctic Algae, a subsidiary of Arctic Bioscience, is a biotechnology startup dedicated to pioneering the production of novel neutraceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds through microalgae research. I am focused on developing methods and protocols to establish pilot-scale cultivation for targeted microalgae strains. By optimizing growth conditions and bioproduction processes, I contribute to our mission of producing high-value compounds sustainably.

Assist volunteers training on the correct field methodologies for Tengah Island conservation programs and to support on-going marine and terrestrial conservation projects.

Project title: Develop biostimulants from microalgae for application to enhance the production of food crops- Cultivated axenic microalgae strains including diatoms, dinoflagellate, cyanobacteria and haptophyte in small scale laboratory setting- Developed and optimised seed germination assays for testing the biostimulant properties of microalgae using cucumber cotyledon- Skills obtained: LC-MS analysis for phytohomones (auxins, cytokinins, gibberellins), colorimetric test for auxins, sonication for cell lysis, cell harvesting (centrifugation), drop plates, media preparation, microscopy for phytoplankton taxonomic identification

Project title: Comparison of the different freshwater medium for the growth of Chlorella vulgaris Skills developed- Aseptic technique- PAM, optical density, dry cell weight, lipid analysis, protein analysis, nutrient analysisUse of large scale photobioreactor (500L bags) and tubular bioreactor (Phycoflow) in outdoor conditions

Investigated the effect of increased ocean temperature on transgenerational acclimation response of echinoderm at the National Sea Simulator (Evolution 21)Skills obtained: animal husbandry, operating aquarium facility, echinoderm dissection and sample processing, identification of zooplankton trawl samples

Developed techniques to cultivate the endangered species, Banggai cardinalfish in captivity; developed a further understanding on the reproductive biology, formulation of feed and grow-out of this species. Skills obtained: fish feed formulation, animal husbandry, bone staining technique (Alizarin red and blue), larvae rearing, live feed culture (rotifers and Artemia)
