For 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to supporting organizations to design programs, business models, products, services, and behavioral interventions that reflect the realities on the ground, that are led by and include the voices of all stakeholders, and that are scaleable.I carry a sense of urgency to tackle global pressing issues, in health and well being, sustainable agriculture and food systems, financial and economic inclusion and environmental and climate change adaptation and mitigation. I use human centered design as a methodology to explore, experiment, validate and scale solutions designed to catalyze social impact. Scaling solutions is often an afterthought, and that’s too late. Rather lets work within systems to embed solutions into longer lasting channels both in the public and private sectors. Not one person has the solution, but it’s a series of honest conversations, visioning and reaching, building and testing, learning and trying again. It’s boldness, humility, risk-taking and being practical. Sharing is key to advancing our work towards social impact. Not just at large international conferences and through academic publications, but through opportunities to share with diverse practioners on the ground working tiredlessly and relentlessly. While jargon is part of all industries, it can divide, so I believe in simplicity and accessibility when we speak about the crux of our work. But the skill we all need to improve is listening — ensuring all voices are heard, providing space for all to take the microphone and also listening to the quietest voices. I believe in progress, but progress for all.I’ve lived and worked in SE Asia in Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand for most of my career and now live in Senegal. My formative years of my career working at USAID, under my hero Kate McKee, were invaluable to understanding the ecosystem in the social sector. I wake up every day eager to dive into work, connect with thought leaders and practitioners, support my teams around the globe designing behavioral interventions and to learn from other sectors and innovations. I’m open for virtual coffees to exchange experiences, look for ways to collaborate and to push boundaries to achieve long lasting social impact.
