I am currently enrolled as a student at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio as a member of their accelerated nursing program (ABSN). Whilst pursuing a career as a registered nurse, my B.S. in Public Health Science from University of Maryland has helped me immensely in understanding the social determinants of health, vulnerable populations, and which conditions are most prevalent in the United States and beyond. Studying in two different cities, I have explored how cultural differences and access to care may shape one's health attitudes and their experiences receiving healthcare.I have gained valuable experiences working as a PCA during my time in nursing school that grant me a better understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of working in a healthcare team. Balancing school and working part-time has increased my capacity to manage my time and plan efficiently. Overall, my time working in the hospital has improved my understanding of both professional and patient relationships, awarding me a stable foundation as I enter the workforce as an RN.
