I earned my MA at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Asheville in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May, 2018. Through my practice with children and families as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 1996, I realized the impact that stress and mental health concerns have on overall health. Adding Counseling to my skill set allows me to be able to offer whole person centered care with and without medications.I interned with a local agency, Family Preservation Services, and the low-fee clinic of True Self Healing. The clinic has a general focus on trauma informed care and attachment related issues.

As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner I treated patients from infancy through early adulthood. With the ability to diagnose, treat and prescribe for my patients I enjoyed taking a whole person centered approach for health maintenance visits, sick visits and in the management of chronic illnesses. Obesity prevention and treatment and asthma and allergy care are areas of special interest. Additionally, non-pharmaceutical approaches to stress management, anxiety reduction and pain reduction through Healing Touch, Guided Imagery and Clinical Hypnosis are areas that I am integrated into my practice regularly.In addition to my direct patient care responsibilities I was involved in quality assurance efforts for Patient Centered Medical Home, NCQA and CHIPRA. My role as Marketing Director provided me the opportunity to work on social media such as our Facebook Page and Website development as well as to do outreach with other organizations such as Smart Start/ILCC and attend networking and outreach events. It was a privilege to work with this organization and enjoy these varied roles.

Mountain Bizworks afforded me the opportunity to network regionally to build awareness of this great organization that assists entrepreneurs in their start up or expanding businesses. Additionally, I taught Foundations, the business planning class and interacted with prospective and established clients to link them with Mountain Bizworks and local services. I stay current with their offerings and still refer colleagues to this fine organization.

After passing the Series 66, the Series 7 and multiple insurance exams I became a Financial Consultant. Although A.G. Edwards/Wachovia were great companies to work for in an exciting career choice I left the field when the stock market declined in 2008.

As the Office Manager, I was responsible for the general management of the law firm including strategic planning, marketing, human resource management, quality control, systems management and financial management. During the process I also became a certified paralegal.
