Former athlete and former business owner - now turned writer.My time as an athlete and business owner (Stature Australia) shaped my desire to change the extractive view our society and systems have toward people and our planet. I left my sporting career with the Australian Women's Hockey Team, the Hockeyroos, before the Tokyo 2021 Olympics due to a toxic culture that exists across many sports - one dominated by fear, silencing and win-at-all-costs behaviours. When I walked away from my career, I spoke out on the system that suppresses players' voices and wellbeing, as well as holding the organisation to account through legal proceedings. I wrote an essay on my experience within a toxic elite sporting system that spread far and wide - this essay is called Upstream and it can be read at www.lilybrazel.com.au/words/upstream Stature Australia was launched in 2019 and is a circular sportswear brand aiming to change the way sportswear is made, marketed, consumed and disposed. At present, Stature is on hold. Currently studying a Masters of Creative Writing at Macquarie University and working for Global Athlete.
