I assisted in class during laboratory hours, mainly teaching sterile laboratory technique to students entering the Freshman Research Immersion program. This highly specialized program launches students into diverse fields of research. In the Molecular Anthropology stream, we taught students how to frame scientific question, and develop the skills to carry out the methods to answer those questions. With the authorized use of the Binghamton BioArchive, the students learned how to use archived ancient DNA samples to answer questions from geographic movements of past populations to current estimates of Lyme infection in Broome County.

-helped to conducted research on the d-loop region of mtDNA under the instruction and guidance of a PhD candidate in my department, now Dr. Michel Shamoon-Pour-extracted DNA from buccal cell samples collected using field techniques-amplified mtDNA using PCR-ran gel electrophoresis to confirm positive results-sequenced d-loop region using Sanger techniques of purification, amplification and capillary array sequencing-analyzed the results using excel, Sequencher and Haplogrep-collaborated with team members on data entry and acquisition-backed up all of the data collected -organized and recorded laboratory supplies
