Recruitment Chair
My Co-Chair and I had to fill in to assist the current Recruitment Chairs for the 2021 year, with the switch back to the in-person process. With online recruitment last year the current chairs only knew from that, and were not equipped to run the full-fledged production that is recruitment. From countless days in the sorority house of information sessions, rehearsal, conversation-tactic sessions, movement practice, song practice, and more, It was my job to delegate every little detail to not only the entire sorority, but to explain everything to the current chairs as well. Since explaining doesn't outweigh experience, I was tasked with leading all of Work Month, as well as being the frontal face for this Recruitment Process, again. This commitment extended beyond the hours of 'chapter practice', or 'work-month meetings'. Still, a 24/7 time-commitment my days and nights revolved around recruitment. Tons of new guidelines were implemented with COVID-19, and again, old ways had to be re-worked and social distancing and safety protocols had to be abided by. Preparing 4 rounds of in-person recruitment for incoming freshman girls:-Using volume and projection to quiet down, delegate to and direct a chapter room filled with 200+ girls-Critiquing actions to utmost perfection as we have to abide by National implications and fines if the Recruitment chairs do not follow the rules to a tee.- Choosing color themes and design elements to put in the house during the recruitment process as well as table decorations, banners, food presentation, and more.-Choosing and securing pick-up dates for furniture with a moving company.-Allocate funds properly.-Writing, practicing and teaching the songs and chants-Connecting with wholesalers and bargaining to save money.-Produce videos for SisterHood speech, as well as give introduction speeches during the actual rounds of rush.
Recruitment Chair
What began as a passion for the short-term role of recruitment chair, turned into a 2-year commitment to my position as VP Recruitment. Recruitment chair is a voluntary position, but you must be appointed by and voted on by the entire sorority. Leading a group of 300 girls, and deciding whether or not to ‘accept’ another 75, out of a pool of 1800+ is a big responsibility. I got slated into the position 2 months before COVID-19 hit, unaware that I would have to recreate the recruitment experience, to fit the online environment, redirecting old tactics to teach and lead the chapter during the long and intensive preparation period: ‘Work Month. This was the first time in history the four rounds in-person recruitment had been anything but that. This is a 24/7, around the clock job, there is not time for sleep, personal, or social life. From teaching myself how to make CSV files to put hundreds of girls into 50+ breakout rooms at once, or planning and delegating information and tactics to the rest of the chapter for them to retain, my job was to plan four rounds of recruitment for incoming freshman girls to find their homes, while remaining the face of the sorority during the entire process. Writing, practicing and teaching songs and chants was a favorite pastime of mine. Overseeing all conversation practice, and song rehearsals, to ‘practice until perfect’ and guiding actions to attain a smooth deliverable, in favor of Nationals, to avoid implications and fines. I self-produced, filmed and assembled different videos for a Virtual rendition of what would be in-person: House Tours, SisterHood Video and Speech, and the Philanthropy speech. One thing that I preached during my role was always this: ‘Show, don’t tell’. When sorority members would ask: “What do I respond if a potential new member asks about ___, or ____”, or “How can I showcase our philanthropy” my job is to teach them to communicate in the best way possible.
