Worked as part of Flowsheet Definition and Analysis, who define the flowsheet for the overall tank waste treatment mission and identify and close any technical gaps. During my internship, I developed a revision to a 243-page report that is the foundation of a custom Gibbs Energy Minimization Calculation that calculates phase distribution for liquid/solid chemical systems. I compiled and cleaned approximately 1,400 rows of solubility data, adding to the existing 21,000+ row Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Expanding the solubility database facilitates better understanding of the tank waste’s solubility behavior, which minimizes mission risk by identifying and closing technical gaps in the integrated flowsheet. I examined new data for self-consistency and consistency with existing data and performed data analysis and visualization using Tableau, identifying chemical salts for which additional data is needed. These determinations were used to define solubility experimentation scopes of work for laboratory research contracts (valued at ~$300,000 per year).
