Select projects include:• Development of a new class of ductile Cr-based alloys through powder metallurgy: applied high throughput CALPHAD calculations, heat treatments, and microstructural characterization for the development of a new aerospace alloy. Performed multi-scale microstructural analysis using SEM, EDS, EBSD, FIB, TEM, APT.• Feasibility of water atomized tool steel powder for binder jet additive manufacturing: produced fully dense builds using water atomized powders, reducing the required powder feedstock costs for binder jetting. Feasibility was confirmed through bulk and powder characterization (SEM, EDS) and mechanical property testing.• Controlling solute clustering in a laser powder bed fused maraging steel: rationalized through APT solute cluster analysis, verified the capability for controlling solute clustering via printing process control, with ramifications on the precipitation behaviour and mechanical properties of final heat-treated parts.

• Rationalized the origins of property heterogeneity in additively manufactured Ni-based superalloys: microstructural and geometrical mechanisms to control property variations within electron beam powder bed fused Inconel 738 and Haynes 282 were discovered through multiscale microscopy (SEM, EDS, EBSD, FIB, TEM, APT) and neutron computed tomography (NCT).• Residual stress control in electron beam powder bed fused Ni-based superalloy: employed complex internal geometries to control the residual stress states of as-fabricated components. Residual stresses were quantified through neutron diffraction experiments.
