About Wee Lee Lim
A career as a psychotherapist working with prison and inmates' families can be incredibly rewarding, but also challenging. One of the complexities of this field is dealing with difficult families who have experienced multiple traumas. I have the opportunity to support families who are facing the unique challenges of having a loved one in prison, particularly children who are often impacted by the incarceration of a parent. I also work with inmates to support their reintegration back into society. Additionally, I have a role in improving company's system work, digitalization work, assessments, data analysis and translation of assessments tools and other paperworks in different languages, such as Chinese and Malay language.I work with inmates, their families and loved ones, and help them to better understand and cope with the emotional and psychological implications of having a family member in prison. I support families to navigate through the difficulties of incarceration and work towards maintaining and rebuilding family relationships. I also support inmates in addressing any mental health or emotional issues that might hinder their reintegration into society and help them to develop the skills they need to succeed after release.Becoming a psychotherapist in the prison system requires a deep understanding of the criminal justice system and the specific emotional and psychological needs of inmates, their families, and children. It is not an easy field but the hard work and dedication is worth it to be able to support and guide families, especially children through the hardships of prison life, and support inmates in their reintegration process. Additionally, this role also requires the ability to work with technology, data analysis and translation skills which is an added value to the company. This field is constantly evolving and as a psychotherapist, I am always learning new techniques and strategies to help my clients. It is a challenging and stimulating career that allows me to use my passion for helping others and make a difference in the lives of those who are often overlooked and marginalized.
