Provide specialist support and guidance in occupational hygiene monitoring and control and contribute to the control of workplace hazards, and safety and health protection of the Singapore workforce.Help ensure that Singapore’s workplace environmental conditions continue to improve by working in collaboration with other departments in Occupational Safety and Health Division as well as external partners (industry and other agencies), through programmes and activities in the areas of occupational hygiene standards, research and best practices.Develop targeted intervention programmes for specific health hazards at national level. Strategies includei. Standard setting - review of legislationii. Compliance assistance (content development for WSH Guidelines, Checklists and leaflets);iii. My main responsibility as in intern was to provide assistance on environmental monitoring projects and impact assessment studies.Major projects include assessment of water quality at key recreational beaches in Singapore which concerns protection of public health; monitoring of natural swamp areas for preservation of wildlife; and impact study of land reclamation on coastal areas.Other support function was to assist in laboratory work to present data for the environmental monitoring reportI also had the opportunity to familiarise myself with specialised computer software modelling tools (MIKE) which simulate real time scenario model of coast and sea.
