As a member of the 2023 SDU iGEM team, I gained valuable experience in the world of synthetic biology science projects both inside and outside the laboratory. Our project, VitroFAS, aimed to develop a more sustainable and efficient method for PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) degradation, by optimizing Dehalogenase enzymes using error-prone PCR in engineered E. coli. During the iGEM Grand Jamboree, we were awarded the gold medal and the special award for Best Integrated Human Practices in the Overgrad category. Furthermore, we were nominated for Best Bioremediation Project, Best Sustainable Development, and Best Presentation.
