The Native American Code Writers program (NACWP) was initiated and funded by the ArizonaLegislature in April 2016. The program received renewed funding in April 2018 and April 2022 inorder to increase access to computer science for Native American students. The Arizona Department of Education (ADE)-OIE serves as a liaison between the state and funded projects by providing overall program oversight and support. Through a competitive RFP process, Science Foundation Arizona (SFAz) was awarded funding for the facilitation of the program in 2017 through 2019. In 2022, Arizona Science Center was awarded grant funds and is currently facilitating the program.The Native American Code Writers program (NACWP) is designed to provide engagingComputer Science courses and activities to Native American students across the state. TheProgram targets Native American students and their teachers in order to teach ComputerScience (CS) to 250+ high school students yearly, across four reservations. The CS content isdesigned to help students think critically, problem-solve, and work with technology integrationusing app development, gaming, website design, multimedia, cyber security and robotics.Each NACWP partnering school is provided:● A comprehensive, year-long computer science professional development programthrough Arizona Science Center and Code.org● Funding for computer science equipment, robotics, teacher travel to training andconferences● Support and guidance with an articulated K-12 pathway for feeder elementary andmiddle schools, into the sponsored high schools and the local community colleges anduniversities.● Opportunities for students to participate in internships and mentoring programs withbusiness and industry partners, and● Ongoing support through monthly coaching sessions and meetings with other CSteachers.The funding and activities are all designed to help increase the number of Native Americanstudents in computer science courses and careers.

Collaborate with a team of STEM professionals within the AZ STEM Network and Science Foundation Arizona to develop the STEM Immersion Guide (Matrix), STEM Implementation Tools, STEM Immersion videos, the Online Arizona STEM Network, consult with the Helios STEM Grant Districts and "Tools for Teachers" Program.

CREST is a small specialty high school that offers students a four year rigorous, comprehensive program in Engineering, Biotechnology or Sustainability.The program is based in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education. The curriculum is problem-based and prepares students to be successful in post-secondary education leading to STEM careers.
