I'm on the Outreach Team in the Office of Compounding Quality and Compliance within the Office of Compliance/Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. I coordinate meetings with industry and stakeholder groups and write/edit talking points for our leaders to ensure we provide accurate and clear information that's consistent with FDA policy. I help develop responses to queries from media outlets. I write moderation guides for our listening sessions with industry groups, as well as communication plans and web content. I also support process improvement to ensure efficiency in our meeting and communication planning.

Serve as communications advisor and strategist for drug regulation and enforcement issues, developing communications plans and key messages for pharmaceutical industry, regulatory partners, healthcare provider, and consumers. • Gather and share information with other FDA communications teams and work collaboratively to develop communications strategies for emerging issues, such as nitrosamines and other contaminates in drugs, drug shortages and recalls, fraudulent products with undeclared drug ingredients, drug supply chain security, contamination in compounded drugs, and violations of drug clinical trial regulations.• Provide responses to trade and general news media inquiries in coordination with the FDA Office of Media Affairs.• Coordinate with Recalls and Incidents Branch to publicize drug recalls.• Manage and update FDA various webpages providing critical COVID-19 public health information, regulatory policy updates, and list of hand sanitizers consumers should not use. • Review, ensure accuracy and clear press releases, statements, consumer updates, and safety alerts for public release.

Served as communication strategist and lead writer/editor focusing on leadership messages, regulatory science, and food safety partnerships with state public health and agriculture departments. • Wrote news articles, talking points, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, key messages, and Q&As for ORA associate commissioner and other leaders. Examples include FDA Voices articles on strengthening global inspections, Rapid Response Teams, and produce safety rule. Also served as lead editor and writer for OneORA, an employee news platform. • Developed and executed communications plans for multi-year laboratory construction project, workplace safety program, state partnerships, and laboratory harmonization effort. • From June to August 2020, served on the ORA COVID-19 Joint Information Center, gathering, updating, ensuring accuracy, and clearing information on coronavirus public health emergency actions.

Served as principal writer/editor to effectively convey information on complying with drug manufacturing regulations to the global pharmaceutical industry. • Managed communications for Office of Manufacturing Quality (a suboffice of the Office of Compliance), developed communications plans and key messages on compliance and enforcement policies and actions. • Developed presentations for office director and senior leaders for industry conferences reflecting FDA guidance and regulations. • Launched, wrote, and edited monthly OMQ Connection newsletter to improve internal communication and ensure employee awareness of new initiatives and accomplishments. • Developed and led training to improve compliance officers’ writing skills, coached staff and responded to ask-the-editors email queries. Provided editorial advice to compliance officers for preparation of inspection requests, warning letters, SOPs, and talks for industry conferences. • Created and built OMQ Writing Resources Guide in SharePoint to provide staff with vetted resources on plain language principles. Received FDA 2017 Plain Language Award for this. Led training on writing warning letters and using the OMQ Writing Resources Guide.• Evaluated effectiveness of communication to drug industry by performing web analytics and tracking trade press coverage. Analyzed annual web traffic for scores of warning letters to pharmaceutical firms.

Led, managed and directed communications projects for forensic science, national security standards and greenhouse gas programs. Promoted programs’ research and accomplishments to target audiences using digital, new media and traditional communications techniques. Managed and wrote content for program websites with primary focus on forensics program (www.nist.gov/forensics). Wrote news articles, news releases, op-ed pieces, talking points, speeches, fact sheets, web stories, social media posts, and magazine articles on forensic science. Led communications planning meetings; give presentations on forensic science communication efforts to NIST scientists and senior leaders.

Public Affairs Specialist with the NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research public affairs team. Developed and implemented communications plans to promote research activities of seven regional labs, 18 Cooperative Institutes (university partnerships), and the National Sea Grant College Program (33 university-based programs).
