A Technical Program Manager with over 15 years of experience in the non-profit public health sector delivering digital health solutions in low resource settings, and 10 years’ prior experience in private sector software development and implementation. Working with the global digital health community to support and promote global goods for health and the use of interoperability standards. My expertise includes health information systems (HIS) technical assistance including business analysis, open source software product management, software quality assurance and implementation validation, training, technical oversight of sub-awards and proposal development. Focus areas for HIS systems include maternal and child health and nutrition, immunization, health commodities supply chain, HIV and TB case-based surveillance, blood safety strengthening and climate and health systems adaptation. Bridging the gap between business and technology, I enjoy working with diverse multi-functional teams across Africa and the globe to deliver effective and sustainable digital health systems that provide real value and impact to Ministries of Health, end users, custodians and funders, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for patients.

As Product Delivery Manager, reporting to the Director of Programmes, I managed multi-disciplinary technical teams and sub-contractors and co-ordinated with partner organisations and in-country implementing partners to ensure delivery of high-quality digital health products and implementation services according to the programme workplan. Main focus areas were the Better Health Programme South Africa (BHPSA) funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office aimed at strengthening information systems for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and the Technical Assistance Platform (TAP) funded by PEPFAR through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As the Product Manager of the Blood Safety Information System (BSIS) I oversaw the development of the technical solution and management of the software roadmap. BSIS is an electronic information management system developed as part of a larger CDC-funded Blood Safety Strengthening Programme (BSSP). The programme’s over-arching goal is to improve the safety and availability of the blood supply and to minimise the risk to the health of patients receiving blood transfusions in low resource countries, as well as identifying HIV-infected donors and referring them to care and treatment. In addition, I have worked on a wide range of other projects, including the OpenHIE Open Health Information Exchange community, OpenCRVS for civil registration and vital statistics, and various innovative eHealth and mHealth projects. Key responsibilities are: Engage with clients, partners, funders and SMEs to analyse business processes and workflows and elicit, define and validate requirements and maintain ongoing relationships.Develop detailed user and functional specifications and translate these into epics and stories. Maintain and prioritise the software product backlog. Work closely with the solution architect and technical development team in an agile environment using a SCRUM methodology. Oversee quality assurance and testing and user acceptance testing. Monitor project plans, schedule, resource and track technical work and provide status updates and project reports Developing and improve appropriate processes and templatesCollaborate with programme managers to develop budgets, work plans and write funding proposals. Responsible for product documentation such as training manuals, implementation guides and marketing material. Assist with demonstrations and training.

For nearly five years I was fortunate to work on a part-time basis with the great team at FTI, a training company specialising in career-oriented training courses and support services for information technology sector, as a lecturer for the Information Systems (IS) Project Management Essentials and the Certificate Programme in IS Project Management Practice.

Managed the successful implementation of financial accounting systems at multiple clients, liaising with end-users, I.T. staff, and hardware department staff to understand their system requirements, reporting to management, and ensuring the project was managed within the specified time, budget and scope.
