Interim Director, Fiscal Sponsorship Program
Current
Advisor
As an Advisor for Tides, I hold a portfolio of fiscally sponsored nonprofit partners who are tirelessly advancing social justice. My role is primarily client services, encompassing a wide range of coordination, strategy, facilitation, and overall relationship management. My partners range from single employee projects with lean operating budgets, to projects with millions in funding, complex government contracts, and employees distributed across the world. Each partner receives my full support and attention as they work to advance their mission. On a technical side, my role requires knowledge about nearly every aspect of nonprofit operations. I regularly work with our finance, legal, and HR teams to process expense and revenue contracts, leases, grant agreements, and grant recommendations. My portfolio includes projects in human rights, education, beauty and wellness, domestic violence prevention and support, youth development, and more. The types of support these partners need varies from one to another. Day to day, my job may include helping a partner navigate signing a 20 year lease, assisting a partner with transferring their name and assets from a prior fiscal sponsor, or evaluating 50+ page government contracts and grants. In these situations, I work closely with finance and project staff to prioritize compliance and financial sustainability. Having nearly a decade of navigating in the nonprofit landscape allows me to provide service or connect to the appropriate person or department with relevant expertise.
Senior Accountant
As part of a Client Services Team, I support Tides Social Venture partners by providing operational financial management of project revenues and expenses. I work closely with changemakers to ensure appropriate management of philanthropic funding and governmental contracts, along with helping manage cash flow and financial sustainability. In this client-facing position, customer service is key. I assist leaders by preparing financial reports to funders, building budgets that maximize and prioritize unrestricted dollars and company objectives, and partner with other members of the Client Services Team to deliver consistent, high quality services. In this role, I work with multiple departments to advance shared goals. I’m simultaneously an expert on nonprofit finance, an investigator of transactional mysteries, and a bridge between internal finance staff and social venture partners. This position allows me to be of service to those leading important work in the social fabric of our society. Together, with my colleagues, we accelerate the pace of social change.
Accountant
This temporary position was focused on providing catch-up accounting, regular month end closing, and year end support. At CHA, I worked on a portfolio of projects to complete monthly accounting of AR, AP, accruals, investments, and financial statement preparation. I supported the year-end closing and subsequent audit preparation by preparing reports and analysis for management, and worked with senior staff to assist as necessary. This position ended shortly after an employee returned from an unplanned medical leave.
Accountant/Budget Analyst
This position was a 4-5 month assignment to assist the Library’s finance department with fiscal year end, audit preparation, and some general catch up. I coordinated an inventory of fixed assets, retiring over $9MM in assets no longer in use. Additionally, I wrote procedures for maintaining fixed assets in subsequent years. I assisted with GL accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, and bank statement reconciliations. I also served to help accounts payable with a high volume of invoices received right and year end that needed to be included in the current fiscal year.
Staff Accountant
As a member of the Finance Team, I supported the organization by providing accounting services to internal clients and fiscal partners in a variety of ways. My duties included expense and revenue tracking for state and federal contracts, and philanthropic funds. This also involved preparing complex financial reports for program directors, and generally included invoicing state agencies either monthly or quarterly per the contract. Another major function of this role is to participate in the Foundation's budget process. As each Accountant is responsible for his or her own programs, I budgeted and forecasted for my programs annually and quarterly to meet the Foundation's revenue goals as approved by our Board of Directors.Additionally, I had month-end closing responsibilities, general ledger accounting, fund accounting, accrual accounting, and balance sheet accounting to complete monthly. I provided backup support to payroll, and maintained the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Staff Accountant
Under the Senior Accountant, I perform a variety of accounting tasks, including gift processing, accounts payable, monthly bank account reconciliations, assistance with grant processing, expense report tracking and reconciliation, and other duties as necessary. I'm always looking for ways to increase efficiency, streamline manual processes, and contribute to the growth of the Foundation.
Bookkeeper And Tax Preparer
With minimal oversight, I prepared monthly financials for small business clients using Quickbooks software. My role included answering client questions, making journal entries, reconciling all accounts monthly, remotely accessing banking and payroll information, filing quarterly sales tax returns, completing business property statements, and working with the CPA on complex transactions or scenarios. This was a remote position in which I was required to maintain my workload with very limited supervision.
Staff Accountant
Preparation of tax returns for a variety of entity types, financial statement audit and preparation, tax research, bookkeeping/journal entries as needed, and supporting the senior staff and partners with whatever they needed to ensure our clients' expectations were exceeded.
