About Linda Gartz

Author of "Redlined: A Memoir of Race, Change, and Fractured Community in 1960s Chicago." Print available now at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Indiebound, and indie bookstores. Audiobook now available at special launch discount starting $6.99 at select retailers (see LindaGartz.com) The legacy of redlining continues as we've seen African Americans residents of formerly redlined communities suffer from heat islands, food deserts, pollution, and lack of green space.Linda loves sharing the history of redlining and her family story in person and on zoom. She's presented at libraries, rotary clubs, with map societies, civic groups, history centers, and the wonderful Newberry Library, among others. With personal experience on racial change on Chicago’s West Side during the 1960s and the aftermath of the community’s 1965 and 1968 riots, she brings authenticity to each presentation. She is available to present anywhere in the country via Zoom, Skype, or other online media.Curator of thousands of pages of letters, diaries, documents and other primary sources that informed her book, "Redlined," Linda is also knowledgable and up-to-date on the many modern-day versions of discrimination in housing, insurance, etc. Gartz has written print articles and scripts that inspire, motivate, teach, and entertain. Researcher, curator, and translator of a vast trove of family letters, diaries, and documents spanning the last century. This unique collection was donated in May 2021 to the Chicago’s Newberry Library’s Midwest Manuscript collection as The Gartz Family Papers.
