About Linda Ivanova

I am a marketing and communications expert with a deep knowledge of and passion for sustainability and degrowth. Hence, with everything I do, I want to contribute towards two things: 1. Helping the right kind of businesses and organizations – i.e. those who prioritize sustainability, equality, and/or conviviality – use marketing & comms both effectively and in line with their values.2. Working towards societal change though effective communications, for instance by making complex topics such as degrowth accessible to a wider audience. Questions? Ideas? Or interested in working with me? You can write me here or at hello@lindaivanova.com!

Postgraduate Thesis: How Marketing Can Help Postgrowth Orgs & Its Role In A Postgrowth World
Universitat Autònoma De Barcelona Oct 2023 - Present
    Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain
It is clear that extractive and profit-oriented ways of delivering goods and services are both unsustainable and detrimental to human wellbeing. At the same time, promising alternatives have emerged in recent years. While their organizational forms and offerings differ widely, many are oriented towards postgrowth in one way or another, be it through aiming to reduce ecological impacts, increasing local and global equality, or supporting democracy and participation. Such organizations, however, also face new challenges. For instance, they compete with large, traditional enterprises but cannot do so simply by selling more or selling it cheaper. They also tend to provide products and services in new ways, requiring customers and “prosumers” to adapt and often participate. Existing research indicates that such challenges can be addressed through strategic communications and marketing. However, little orientation exists so far on how to do this, while traditional marketing frameworks include many tactics that actively encourage harmful practices like overconsumption, planned obsolescence and materialism. Hence, the aim of this project is to understand how marketing and communications can provide value for postgrowth-oriented organizations, how they can best use it to their advantage and what role marketing would have in a post-growth world.
