The arts have been part of my life since childhood, piano, cello, and painting. I followed those creative paths to degrees at University of Illinois and Berkeley. But I discovered that my challenging childhood, explored in my first memoir Don't Call Me Mother prepared me to be a good listener. I've been a therapist in Berkeley, CA for over 40 years. My books: Becoming Whole: Writing Your Healing Story, Don't Call Me Mother, The Power of Memoir, and The Journey of Memoir have helped memoirists with their own journey.Founder of the National Association of Memoir Writers, I created a network for memoir writers to learn the skills to become successful published authors. Each month we hold live events, the free Virtual Book Club which highlights memoir authors, and our monthly member teleseminar where experts in the field of writing, marketing, and publishing share their wisdom. This is a historical fiction novel based on the real life events in France in 1940. My characters join with the American Varian Fry and the Scottish padre Donald Caskie to rescue Jews, British soldiers, anti-fascists and artists in Vichy France who were trapped there after the swift fall of France to the Germans in June 1940.
