Linda K. Kenney is the Director for Peer Support Programs, at The Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety. Linda is formerly the Executive Director of Medically Induced Trauma Support Services (MITSS), Inc. founded the organization as the result of a personal experience with medically induced trauma, when she identified the need for support services in cases of adverse events and outlined an agenda for change. She has consulted with healthcare organizations regarding staff support; provided direct support services for patients and family members; and involved extensive advocacy work. She is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the patient safety movement and speaks regularly at healthcare conferences and forums.Linda has managed operations since MITSS was founded in 2002. During these fifteen years, Linda has been engaged in mobilizing numerous change initiatives. Her project management skills were put to good use as she brought these initiatives from idea to inception to implementation through needs assessment, program design and evaluation. Linda is a problem solver. She enjoys the challenge of analyzing symptoms, identifying what is wrong, and finding the solution. As one example, Linda led a team of experts from around the country to create a Clinician Support Tool Kit for health care. The kit was proven very effective as it has been accessed by every state in the U.S. and over 100+ countries worldwide.Linda sees potential in others. When enabling colleagues and project team members, Linda’s goal is to help them experience success. She looks for ways to challenge them and develop their potential. She knows intuitively that the secret to empowering others is the individual strengths of each member, so that everyone can do what they do well. Her work recruiting and mobilizing volunteers is an example of where she excels at leading teams and galvanizing others.
