As the Senior Instructional Designer I conduct a 12 week training series every semester for faculty preparing fully online and hybrid courses. I work with 3 other instructional designers to consistently focus our training approach and message in training for web-enhanced and technology assisted course delivery for on-campus classes. Providing extensive technical and pedagogical support to teaching faculty is a significant part of this position as well. Our Pedagogy of Effective Online Course Design and Development course balances skills instruction with pedagogical strategies, enabling faculty to make well informed and sometimes even experimental decisions while transitioning from the classroom to the online environment.I also present special pedagogically targeted workshops such as: -- Web Enhanced Course Tools and Strategies for Creating Prepared Students-- Web Enhanced Course Tools and Strategies for Student Group Work -- Shared Resources for Teaching: Learning Objects, Repositories, and your Web-Enhanced Course-- Building Valid Assessments-- TfU and UbD: Teaching with a focus on Understanding-- Using ArtStor images in TeachingThis position serves as a back-up to the Director and therefore requires active engagement with larger programmatic concerns and strategies. Most recently this position has become involved in the change management/upgrade process with a focus on supporting faculty in times of rapid change. Additionally I serve on the Copyright Committee and the ADA Compliance Committee, for whom I successfully submitted our proposed compliance policy to Senior Staff. I regularly present at HVCC's Faculty Workshop Day and Distance Learning Day. Other activities and affiliations in this role include active involvement with the Open SUNY and SUNY-wide initiatives, conferences, workshops and professional development with Sloan-C, NERCOMP, EDUCAUSE, and local academic technology organizations.

Currently teaching Modern Art History online and in the classroom, as well as Art History Survey II and History of Fashion. My courses are richly populated with media, a good deal of which I create myself. I present material in an interdisciplinary context and focus on students learning to see, think and write weekly. Making art history feel relevant to community college general education students is a priority. Helping students understand the cultural underpinnings and context of western fashion while allowing them to enjoy the "bling factor" is one of my continuously evolving strategies.In my faculty role, I served a 2 year term on the Educational Policy and Standards committee of the Faculty Senate.

The Open SUNY Center for Online Teaching Excellence (COTE) recognizes outstanding SUNY online instructors as Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassadors, and accepts nominations from each SUNY institution annually (The call for nominations takes place during the month of November).Nomination by an individual’s home campus is required (directors of online learning/online instructional designers, deans, department chairs). Nominees must be SUNY faculty/instructors, Open SUNY Fellows, and have current online teaching experience teaching. They must be considered, “Exemplary online SUNY educators, who are enthusiastic and effective in online teaching, and who can be positive and strong advocate for online teaching in our SUNY community.”Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassadors are awarded certificate of recognition and a digital badge in honor of this distinction, their profiles are featured on the COTEhub website, and they are afforded opportunities to be online teaching advocates and to share their thoughts with the community in various ways throughout the year.Open SUNY Online Teaching Ambassadors are encouraged to attend the Open SUNY COTE Summit, an annual conference for online practitioners.
