Most people spend at least 8 hours at work - and this is a conservative estimation for most of us. Think about this: at least 1/3 of our life is spent at work. This is also where we develop our views and practices of good (and bad) health habits that we carry through into home life even affecting the quality of our sleep. It really affects all dimensions of our lives.How often do you stop to think about this? I do because this is my expertise. I specialize in workplace ergonomics and have worked in this field for almost 30 years.When I started my professional journey working in health care settings helping people deal with the consequences of poor lifestyle habits, I soon decided that I could have a bigger impact if I started to work on how to prevent those unhealthy habits from developing in the first place. This was one of the reasons I started studying ergonomics and founded my company EWI WORKS. Over the years, we learned how important it was to look beyond the factors that employers can influence (that it is essential, but not enough), looking as well to how the employees' habits have a role in all of it -moreover, how ergonomics must go beyond the workplace. For instance, many think by investing in sit stand desks it is the magic bullet. The reality is we are just replacing lean on a chair with leaning on a desk.I believe people have the power to change their health and wellness behaviors. One step at the time, small incremental change makes all the difference. People can be happier at work and at home. And my mission is to help more people on this journey to better wellness habits and happiness.
