About Linda Morra
A leading scholar of archival theory and Canadian women’s writing and a multiple award-winning instructor, I am a Full Professor of English at Bishop’s University in Quebec and last year's Jack and Nancy Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Simon Fraser University (to August 2022). I was selected as the Designated Alternate for a Fulbright Research Chair in March 2020. In September 2016 (to 2017), I was awarded the Craig Dobbin Chair of Canadian Studies, at the University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland; this position has rotated between specialists of Canadian Studies since its inception in 1992 in fields that encompass literature, history, political science, and geography. In January 2016, under the auspices of a Sproul Fellowship, I was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where I embarked on my current research project related to Jane Rule. My research is animated by inquiries into the place of women writers in the public sphere and the means by which women have had their archival materials preserved, which culminated in a monograph, Unarrested Archives. This book, which recalibrates scholarly perspectives on women writers’ agencies in the twentieth century, was a finalist for the Gabrielle Roy Prize in English in 2015. Another book, Moving Archives (2020), which fruitfully extends this research, was awarded the Gabrielle Roy Prize in English in 2020. My co-edited volume, On the Other Side(s) of 150 won the Canadian Studies Network Prize for Best Edited Volume in Canadian Studies in 2021.My publication trajectory also includes Margaret Laurence and Jack McClelland: Letters (2018), Learn, Teach, Challenge: Approaching Indigenous Literatures (2016), Basements and Attics, Closets and Cyberspace: Explorations in Women’s Archives (WLUP 2012), Troubling Tricksters (2010), Corresponding Influence: Selected Letters of Emily Carr and Ira Dilworth (2006), and an edition of Jane Rule’s memoir, Taking My Life (Talon 2011). Taking My Life was a finalist for the international LAMBDA prize in 2012.Check out episodes of my podcast, Getting Lit With Linda, to hear me speak about Canadian literature and its applicability to our daily lives.
