About Linda O'Brien
My passion is to unlock the power of data and digital technologies to drive public value – whether it’s to ensure research can be readily translated into practise in order to improve the world in which we live, to empower citizens to better manage their lives or to improve public policy.I have extensive experience in executive leadership and management with particular expertise in data, technology and digital transformation. During my career I have managed university divisions with more than 600 staff and capital and operating budgets in excess of $120 mill. pa. I am currently an Adjunct Professor within Griffith Business School’s Department of Business Strategy and Innovation, CEO for the Stawell Undergound Physics Laboratory on a part time basis and providing strategic consulting to the Australian Research Data Commons on the development of Australia's national persistent identifier strategy. Throughout my career I have been a Director on a number of Boards and on several State and Federal government advisory committees. Through these experiences I have built deep and broad governance skills and knowledge. I was privileged to have been Chair of the ORCID Board, a nonprofit international organization helping create a world in which all who participate in research, scholarship and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions and affiliations, across disciplines, borders, and time; and am an independent Director of the Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation and Deputy Board Chair of Infoxchange, a not-for-profit social enterprise that has been delivering technology for social justice for 30 years. With 150 staff across Australia and New Zealand, Infoxchange tackles the biggest social challenges through the smart and creative use of technology. Previously I have chaired Services, Infrastructure and Business Strategy Board sub-committees and been a member of Audit and Risk committees.I have built extensive international networks with people and organisations concerned with global digital research infrastructure and national networks in place-based social change, led major IT projects, undertaken consultancies, designed and led professional development programs and published and presented nationally and internationally in my field.

Linda O'Brien was appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of Logan Campus in September 2017, having previously been Pro Vice Chancellor (Information Services) since October 2008. As Head of Logan Campus Linda is committed to maintaining Logan campus’s deep, mutually beneficial connections with the broader community to create work-ready graduates, deliver impactful research and foster opportunities for local innovation. As University Librarian Linda is passionate about the value of information as the foundation for learning, research and innovation.
