As the Spring 2020 Health & Fitness Intern, I have a unique role with Verizon to provide the best customer service, health and nutrition coaching, as well as fitness expertise in the Health & Wellness Center. I counsel employees as part of the National Nutrition Team through one-on-one nutrition counseling and provide monthly nutrition handouts on topics within Heart Health Month and National Nutrition Month such as weight loss, strength and endurance performance training, diabetes maintenance, vegan and vegetarian diets, and wellness. I lead professional, safe, and effective group exercise class instruction in formats including Cycle, Cycle Circuits, High Intensity Interval Training, Spin+, Functional Training, and Bootcamp. During the month of January, I was able to contribute to the largest January incentive program with wellness coordinators in four years, which increased the number of memberships, percentage of active members, and engagements with group exercise classes. My fitness expertise involves designing personalized training programs and workout routines based on individualized performance and weight loss goals. For new members, I provide fitness assessments for new members using PAR-Q, YMCA Step Test, sit-up and push up timed tests, and body analysis including height, weight, blood pressure, body mass index, and body fat percentage. I perform daily cleanliness and safety of the Health & Wellness Center, including the cleaning of weight machines, functional equipment, and cardio machines as well as monitoring all equipment for any needed repairs.By conducting monthly blood pressure checks, I am able to help provide employees with result logs for long-term monitoring of blood pressure and heart health for all employees. I also coordinate on-site monthly café sampling from the National Nutrition Team with a focus on a new superfood each month and provides recipe analysis for samples and alternative food choices.

As the NIRSA Region III Student Lead On Coordinator, I am responsible for the planning and organization of the Region III Lead On Conference at the University of Toledo, January 30-February 1, 2020. This is a volunteer leadership position in order to coordinate the Region III Student Lead On: a student led, student-run conference for 500 attendees across the region of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin to volunteer, present or listen to educational presentations about recreation and wellness, engage in professional development activities, and network with other students and professionals. As the Coordinator, I negotiate sponsor contracts, socials, ordering of supplies and name badges, and supervise five committees comprised of 32 members who are involved in the planning of this conference.
