About Lindsay A. Tack, Ph.D.
I research and design experiences that help support and augment human capabilities and maximize the benefits offered by those solutions. What may seem intuitive is often not, and what may appear visually pleasing is often not useable; thus, I strive to design experiences and solutions inspired by research on human information processing and behavior and grounded in end user data.Much of my work involves conducting and applying user research as well as research about human cognitive processes (e.g., memory, attention, various processing modalities, skill acquisition and learning) towards solving real-world problems and challenges. I am interested in developing creative research-based solutions that will enhance the compatibility between a given product or goal and human cognitive processes. My empirical research to date has focused on skill acquisition and the learning of tasks relevant to applied settings. Overall, my interests include complex processes such as skill acquisition, human performance, training, and attention, as well as the application of these processes to real world situations and problems. A large part of my research has focused on examining the clicker technique, which is a classroom polling system that uses frequent testing to enhance students’ understanding and provide feedback about students’ understanding. The ultimate goal of this line of research is to identify how to most effectively use this technology so that instructors may be advised on how to optimally use this system in the classroom. In all of my research and work, I seek to find applications to fields such as education, product design, user-centered design, and human factors. I think research on Cognition and humans can be applied to almost any field, and I like to find problems to solve with such research.
Listed skills include Experimental Design, Cognitive Psychology, Research Design, Research, and 31 others.
