Over the course of my varied and unconventional career, I've thrived across the corporate, academic, and nonprofit sectors—leading and transforming iconic media brands, a top-ranked public university, a statewide television network, and currently, one of the world’s most influential science centers.As the Executive Director and CEO of San Francisco’s renowned Exploratorium, I'm responsible for the success of a multidisciplinary team of nearly 500 scientists, researchers, artists, educators, engineers, and other professionals. Together, we're building on the institution’s legacy to drive the next revolution in science education. Our work spans continuous innovation in exhibit development and fabrication at Tripadvisor's #1-rated museum in San Francisco, supporting the professional development of public school teachers across California, and building next-gen science centers for corporate and government clients across North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East.Since stepping into this role in March 2022, I’ve spearheaded significant staff restructuring, streamlined operations, initiated a master planning process for our nine-acre bayfront campus, and launched a five-year strategic plan that lays the foundation for an ambitious nine-figure comprehensive campaign and critical investments to optimize long-term earned revenues.My journey began as an architect and writer in New York, which evolved into a 17-year tenure at Time Inc., where I launched award-winning brands, revitalized stalwart titles, and led teams that touched the lives of millions. In 2014, an unexpected turn drew me into higher education, when I was appointed Chancellor at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During my tenure, we experienced tremendous growth, increased applications, completed major capital projects, relaunched an award-winning website, and achieved the most successful fundraising campaign in the university’s history.In 2019, I was tapped to lead PBS North Carolina, one of the nation's largest public television networks. With the backing of PBS national and UNC System leadership, we rebranded and transformed the regional affiliate into a cutting-edge hub for content production, digital distribution, educational technology, and public safety communications.Today, I’m honored to collaborate with a dedicated board of Exploratorium trustees, including Bay Area tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, philanthropists, academics, and a Nobel laureate, all aligned in our mission to advance STEM learning and science literacy worldwide.
