The International Ergonomics Association held a conference in Vancouver, Canada in June 2021. As part of this conference, students were invited to present research in a creative, concise, fast-paced style called "Pecha Kucha". Judges from acadaemia and industry were recruited to volunteer about 3 hours of their time to learning about this style of presentation, attending 6 presentations of 6 minutes, assessing each presentation using a structured rubric, thoughtfully commenting on the… Show more The International Ergonomics Association held a conference in Vancouver, Canada in June 2021. As part of this conference, students were invited to present research in a creative, concise, fast-paced style called "Pecha Kucha". Judges from acadaemia and industry were recruited to volunteer about 3 hours of their time to learning about this style of presentation, attending 6 presentations of 6 minutes, assessing each presentation using a structured rubric, thoughtfully commenting on the best and worst parts and then submitting this to the organizers. The organizers compared the assessment of the 3 different judges and awarded one student the prize for best Pecha Kucha presentation.Condensing complex research into a 6 minute presentation ensuring it was interesting and understandable was not easy! These students completed a brain-stretching task and the end results were amazing. So much creativity and adaptation was required to stay within the 6 minute limit, keep things fun and not overwhelm the listeners. It was a privilege to assess these presentations and provide feedback that will hopefully help these students present future data in a manner that keeps people entertained rather than overloaded with detail, a serious life skill that researchers everywhere struggle with. Effectively used flame and ion chromatography to detect low levels of major anions and cations in water samples. Precisely analyzed the pH and alkalinity of water using a new test method to determine any statistical differences from the current method.
