I first read about recreational therapy my sophomore year of high school in a health professions class and knew that it was what I wanted to do with my life. Something about being able to help people while learning more about the things I absolutely love doing has sparked an interest that has never gone away, even after many years. Hi, I’m Lindsey Erickson. I have directed my studies towards Therapeutic Recreation, a field that is ever growing and improving. I believe there is more beyond medicine and self-help books that can help us become our happiest and healthiest selves. A lot of this belief has come through experience with mountain biking, music, art, and many other diverse hobbies. I know that I feel the happiest when I am doing these things with the people I love and have made it my life goal to bring this knowledge and feeling to everyone I know. In a book written by one of my favorite authors there’s a quote that says, “The world needs more people with passion and fire coursing through their veins," (Authentically Ruby by Ben Behunin). I absolutely agree with this and have been delighted to see the people in this field are just as passionate about it as I am. These people are selfless, observant, Christ-like, and everything I aspire to be. The best part of this field and degree are that these people are certified to have fun and help others have fun. There is so much to share and so much to learn and I am excited to be a part of this journey.
