Served as Key Personnel on the USAID Infectious Disease Detection and Surveillance (IDDS) project across 17 countries focused on strengthening country programs in line with Global Health Security Agenda action packages. Led the surveillance technical area for the overall project and provided technical and management oversight to PATH teams located in the US and in country offices.

Provide leadership on international and domestic capacity building programs and fellowships across wildlife health and emerging infectious disease work for the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute Global Health Program. Performed data analysis on surveys and surveillance data from the USAID PREDICT project in Kenya and Myanmar; results informed outreach activities to minimize risk of disease Provided technical guidance on surveillance activities for emerging infectious diseases and human and animal sampling including development of protocol, budget, standard operating procedures, data collection forms, approvals and coordination of international partners on the following research projects: Vectorborne disease surveillance in Chad to assess risks of disease to reintroduced Scimitar Horned Oryx in close contact with humans and livestock; Assessing dog bites and rabies vaccination in hospital and community surveys in Kenya; Surveillance tools for use in monitoring elephant endotheliotrophic herpesvirus in working elephants in Thailand; Vectorborne and animal-based disease surveillance for zoonotic diseases in Northern Kenya.

Private Enterprise Program Ethiopia (PEPE) is a wealth-creation programme, which aims to stimulate investment in private enterprise in order to create jobs & increase household incomes for the poor. Main responsibilities included:- Analyze the livestock and leather sectors in Ethiopia to identify business opportunities to benefit the poor- Identify constraints to the livestock/leather markets- Develop solutions with companies to raise incomes and create jobs for the poor- Manage interventions specific to supporting the veterinary sector

Food safety consultant with duty station in Ethiopia preparing capacity assessment tools, EMPRES-food safety tools and programs with emphasis on East Africa. Identify and prepare activities related to food safety or broader agri-food health issues that benefit from a One Health approach. Using various methodologies including horizon scanning, situational analyses, and thematic analysis identify needs, gaps and opportunities for building food safety capacity within a One Health context.

Focal Point for wildlife health and ecology issues within the Emergency Prevention System (EMPRES) Animal Health.Coordinator for the Scientific Task Force on Wildlife and Ecosystem Health (co-convened by UNEP CMS and FAO)Responsible for coordinating FAO specific wildlife activities, including but not limited to coordinating training events, creating project proposals, managing various projects and facilitating internal collaboration in the area of One Health.Responsible for international coordination and collaboration with various stakeholders, including FAO, OIE, AU-IBAR, and CITES on various wildlife issues.Represented FAO at multiple national and international conferences, including UN-One Health [Beijing, 2011], CITES Animal Committee meeting [Geneva, Switzerland 2012], UNEP-CMS Scientific Council Session [Bergen, Norway November 2011], and the “Animali selvatici: conservazione di specie e sanità pubblica. Quali prospettive per il future” conference [Brescia, Italy October 2012]. Led FAO inputs for capacity development workshops on issues at the interface of wildlife, livestock, and human health in Bangladesh (Sept 2012) and Burundi (Nov 2012).

Worked with the Veterinary Pathology residents at Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology as part of my senior year rotations at VMRCVM. While there I worked performing gross necropsies, histopathology identification, and attending weekly lectures with the residents. Learned necropsy and histopathology basics as they relate to disease pathogenesis.

Worked at DHS for 4 weeks researching the common ailments of the DHS working dogs. Authored the first draft of a First Aid Manual for the handlers of working dogs to use in the event that they were unable to seek veterinary care.

Spent 6 weeks working in Rome, Italy with the FAO as part of fourth year veterinary school rotations. Worked within the EMPRES Wildlife Unit studying the effects of bushmeat consumption on zoonotic diseases as well as the international wildlife trade. Prepared a briefing of findings and presented to interested parties at the culmination of the 6 week program.

Worked for 3 weeks with the FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine as part of fourth year rotations to draft responses to an OIE questionnaire that would allow the CVM to become an international collaborating center. Aided in creating the first draft of the Principles for Food Safety and Food Safety Intervention.

Responsible for care of large animal patients including medical and post surgical care. Administered medications PO, IM, IV as needed by patient in hospital. Restrained variety of large animals for medical procedures and obtaining radiographs.
