FedTech is a unique private venture program, funded by federal agencies, that connects entrepreneurs with technologies developed across DoD, NASA, DOE and other laboratories. They run multiple cohorts per year where successful applicants are paired with lab partners/inventors to serve as founders. Teams work closely with teaching and mentor teams and are taken through modules on lean startup, business models, product development, customer discovery, intellectual property and licensing, funding strategies for spinning out R&D, pitch skills, and more.

The Convergence Accelerator is a new capability within NSF to accelerate use-inspired, convergence research in areas of national importance that supports two of the Big Ideas and seeks to engage partnerships – notably public-private partnerships. The initial set of pilot awards are focused on two of the Big Ideas: Harnessing the Data Revolution (Track A) and Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier (Track B). A total of 43 new awards in both tracks, totaling $39 million, will support projects across the country that will find new ways to apply Big Data to science and engineering and create technologies that can enhance the lives of American workers.

The National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) program uses experiential education to help researchers gain valuable insight into entrepreneurship, starting a business or industry requirements and challenges. I-Corps enables the transformation of invention to impact. The curriculum integrates scientific inquiry and industrial discovery in an inclusive, data-driven culture driven by rigor, relevance, and evidence. Through I-Corps training, researchers can reduce the time to translate a promising idea from the laboratory to the marketplace.

DC I-Corps is a regional program designed to foster, grow and nurture an innovation ecosystem in the nation’s capital, the nearby states of Maryland and Virginia, and the mid-Atlantic region. The program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and jointly run by the University of Maryland College Park, George Washington University, and Virginia Tech. The program provides real world, hands-on training on how to successfully incorporate innovations into successful products. The ultimate goal is to create a new venture or licensing opportunity for program participants.

Directly advised 17 student Executive Council leaders and over 40 student Committee members who ran the Student Events Board, the primary programming body on campus that planned high quality social and educational programs for a student body of 11,000. Served as the Office of Student Life representative in UMBC’s Cultural Competency Initiative to help create a respectful, trusting, and culturally diverse learning community. Created a new membership program for the organization with a more formalized training process that increased the general membership from four to 55 student volunteers. Coordinated the contract striking and facility reservation processes for 350 annual events and oversaw an annual budget of over $400,000. Implemented a professional development series for the student leaders with workshops on diversity training, leadership development, time management, establishing professional goals, and more. Researched technology trends in Student Affairs and compiled data from peer institutions as part of the Student Life Strategic Planning Report.
