I direct an afterschool program with approximately 130 students in grades K-4. I manage a team of 14 instructors and design and implement curriculum that changes every seven weeks. The program starts with an academic block where students have one-on-one tutoring and small group work in reading fluency, math facts, Khan Academy, spelling, and homework help. The academic block is followed by two blocks of specialized classes taught by teams of instructors. These classes include subjects in STEM, literacy, art, music, and physical education. My responsibilities include curriculum design, employee management, student discipline, attendance reporting, parent-teacher communication, supply inventory, working within budget constraints, and meeting grant requirements. My main focus as an afterschool professional is to deliver opportunities not previously afforded to children from low-income households by providing a safe and positive learning environment where they can thrive in all aspects of their life.
