I used protein and gene expression technologies to investigate unknown mechanisms of toxicity for the Investigative Safety group in the NonClinical Safety department at GSK. I utilized cell culture, qPCR, capillary western blot, and RNAseq assays to help drug discovery teams identify and avoid potential non-clinical safety questions.

As an ion channel electrophysiologist working in Safety Assessment, I gained experience with the PatchXpress and IonFlux automated patch clamp assays and grew my expertise in manual patch clamp technology. I worked extensively with GABA, hERG, NaV1.5, and CaV1.2 channels expressed in HEK cells and also developed assays for the Kir2.1, Kv1.2, and HCN4 channels. In collaboration with other scientists, I developed flow cytometry- and laser scanning cytometry- based hERG trafficking assays. My dedication was to detecting and reducing CV- and CNS- ion channel liabilities.

As a research technician I helped with the maintenance of the lab, while also performing independent research projects. I did site-directed mutagenesis of voltage-gated ion channels and characterized them using Western Blot analysis, two-electrode voltage clamping of Xenopus oocytes, and cell-attached and whole-cell manual patch clamp of transiently-transfected TSA cells.
