I have a background in classical music with a BA and MA in Music Performance (flute). At the start of the pandemic, I strongly felt the need to transition into healthcare and began taking classes while working full-time and paying tuition out of pocket. I am certified as a Medical Assistant by the NHA and have completed the prerequisite coursework for Physician Assistant programs. I will be applying in April when the next application cycle opens. In the meantime, I am seeking patient care experience to solidify my skill set. In my previous role:Triaged about 30 patients per day. Administered about 10 vaccines per day including COVID-19 vaccines. Daily procedures included diabetic retinal exams, ear lavages, capillary punctures, urinalysis and culture, PCR COVID testing, rapid strep, flu and mono, 12-lead EKGs, spirometry, audiometry, TB skin tests, intramuscular and subcutaneous medication administration, x-ray and lab orders, chart prepping and patient notes. Recorded patient’s height and weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure. Updated patient history and recorded patient words. Called patients to relay lab results. Processed about 10 prior authorization per week. Utilized Allscripts EMR.
