As a Staff Scientist in the Drug Discovery node of Sydney Analytical, Dr Chen's role is to develop the organoid innovation centre and provide advice and technical support to researchers regarding automated and comprehensive 3D culture platforms.

As a senior scientist with research and production experience in the biotechnology industry with a focus on virus-based immuno-oncology, supporting assay development and product manufacturing and process development programs.

Dr Chen’s research interests include investigating the pathophysiology of severe asthma, COPD and cystic fibrosis, and developing therapeutical approaches. Using mucosal organoids (in particular those generated from the lung and gastrointestinal tract) as tools for drug discovery and diagnostic tests for personalized medicine in cystic fibrosis, asthma and lung cancer.

Dr Chen’s main research interests revolve around airway remodelling and respiratory infection in the context of airway disease. My interests have expanded to early life origins of chronic lung disease and lung development. For my research program I use a translational approach consisting of in vitro studies with primary human lung cells and in vivo mouse models of airway condition. My research program focuses on understanding the mechanisms leading to disease progression and exacerbation.
