Surveying Lead / Assistant Coordinator / Advanced Drone Pilot
CurrentSince June 2024, I have been part of the newly established waste management team at the Macassa Mine. I assist with project development and planning for surface operations related to material deposits, water management, and waste management for the short, medium, and long term. Additionally, I am responsible for creating and updating the surface surveying database. Finally, I've been charged with assisting the tailing department coordinator and replace him if needs may be.
Surveyor - Construction Supervisor
Quantity And Construction Surveyor / Residue Site Surveyor
As part of the structural enhancement of multiple old dikes at a large-scale mining site, my role involves overseeing the geometry of the construction of new sections and ensuring compliance with the set standards and specifications both on paper and in the field. I am also responsible for surveying the materials used, quantifying and validating the quantities of materials utilized and excavated for invoicing purposes in collaboration with the project manager.Additionally, I am simultaneously tasked with surveying the deposition site for mining residues at the Canadian Malartic partnership, which spans over 5 kilometers in width alone. This entails supervising the construction activities carried out by multiple contractors and the mine operators on-site. My daily tasks on the residue site vary extensively and typically include:Conducting various surveysPerforming on-site construction control and verificationDrafting plansManaging intelligent machinery and rotary lasersCalculating volumesImplementing layout plansConducting instrumentation surveys to analyze the stability of the residue siteEngaging in surveys for the restoration of the residue site when it's gonna be closedAddressing requests from the Residue Site Superintendent, the different supervisors on the construction site (Agnico Eagle/Norascon/Fournier/Dubé), the coordinators, and the project managers.Compiling progress reports on the ongoing work.
Major Projects Surveyor
Surveying contract as part of the expansion of the Canadian Malartic Mine Partnership's tailings impoundments. In my daily work, I closely collaborate with project managers and executives to establish the next steps of construction, quantify quantities, and rigorously document the project progress. I also supervise various constructions to ensure that they conform to the engineering designs.Once on the construction site, I ensure the smooth operation of operations by communicating with operators and supervisors in place to relay important information about the planning of the day.I am responsible for verifying the stability of the structure by measuring evenly distributed reference points within the excavation area. I am also responsible for the quality control of constructions by combining point clouds obtained from various methods: intelligent shovels, manual GPS measurements, drone data, and 3D scans. I then produce a report summarizing the attainment of the structure's geometric objectives. In addition to the above, I ensure the proper functioning of excavation machinery equipped with GPS equipment (Topcon and Leica) and the understanding of operators regarding the various intelligent systems they will have to use. When machinery is not equipped with GPS systems, I am often called upon to use laser sensor systems or to guide operators manually on the field.I am also involved in the construction of the external draining ditch for the basin. In fact, I survey the terrain, lay out, and verify drilling patterns during the blasting of said ditch. Finally, through plans and statistics, I provide crucial geodetic information to executives to assist them in decision-making.
