Both an entrepreneur and an intrapreneur, my mantra is "short term pain, long term gain". Doing good business through building sustainable business cases and applying good governance may look harder than taking shortcuts, but during my 30+ year career, with multi-sectoral, multi-party business and project development, project management and design experience in 42 countries (34 of which in Africa) on three continents, I've seen it's the best way to unlock value for the long term. A civil engineer by training, I started my career as a hydrotechnical engineer for one of the world’s leading hydropower firms and now have multi-sectoral, multi-party business/project development and management experience, including turnaround and change management. My first assignment in Africa, which began in 1989, was a Zambia-based regional project that lasted nine years and led me not only to develop lasting relationships in Zambia but also to move from Canada to the region, which I have called home since 1997. I now have 34 years of experience in multinationals (Canadian and African-based) and my own companies, promoting sustainable infrastructure investment in Africa. I have focused on Independent Power Producer (IPP) development, hydropower design, renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainability in infrastructure and mining, infrastructure life cycle asset management, municipal infrastructure service delivery (across the electricity, transport and solid waste management functions), private sector participation in infrastructure, regional and continental infrastructure development, and more recently, corporate governance for sustainability. I am a seasoned company director, having served on/chaired boards of business chambers, a significant non-profit and well as my own companies. An experienced public speaker, I am comfortable dealing with African private and public sector decision makers in both English and French.I was honoured to be featured recently in the Amazon international bestselling book "50 Life Lessons From Inspiring Women" by Lynn Murphy. I'm passionate about initiatives which promote teenage girls accessing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Capabilities/professional interests: Sustainability, climate change, client engagement, business development, management, business planning, infrastructure project preparation & service delivery improvement, governance, project management, project finance, private participation in infrastructure, government liaison, advocacy, stakeholder facilitation.
