As the owner of decarb, LLC I provide fractional operational and advisory services to private technology companies. I focus on green/smart buildings, electrification of transportation and renewable energy systems that help decarbonize the world. My role is typically GTM execution, partnership development, strategic deals and fundraising. My clients include: #Phononic, a developer of thermoelectric (aka peltier) modules that are used for all-electric, refrigerant-free HVAC systems, cooling of AI data centers and optical networking equipment, and grocery cold-chain solutions. Phononic’s technology can dramatically reduce the carbon footprint for these and other cooling applications #PEAK Energy, a manufacturer of sodium-ion battery systems with a dramatically better cost, safety, longevity and supply chain profile compared to lithium-ion batteries. Applications include grid-scale BESS and “behind-the-meter” microgrids which are critical for the decarbonization of our electrical grid #Dropwater, a Calpoly spinoff with a mission to eliminate plastic beverage bottles. They have developed a novel robotics vending machine and a biodegradable beverage container and are helping airports, hotels, gyms, conference centers and corporations to go plastic-free #Wild Technology, a developer of an electric propulsion chassis for trailers. With their technology, EV owners can go camping with an RV trailer without stopping to charge every hundred miles, and go off grid to enjoy nature for extended periods.

Building our HVAC business line with Phononic's revolutionizing solid-state cooling/heating technology to deliver much needed GHG-efficient cooling (and heating) without the use of refrigerants and with no moving parts or liquids. Phononic's technology enables all-electric and "green" HVAC with lower TCO and GHG footprint than traditional HVAC systems.

Recruited by Chairman to build the Business Development function at this emerging leader in healthy buildings. R-Zero is backed by some of the earliest investors behind Google, Amazon, Tesla and SpaceX (e.g. John Doerr, Ira Ehrenpreis). I quickly established a BD strategy, built a top performing team, developed relationships with building systems leaders (e.g. Johnson Controls, Carrier, Honeywell), negotiated partnerships to enter the Public Sector and the Commercial Real Estate market, and led exploration of new markets (e.g. agriculture, water treatment), geographies and technologies (e.g. air quality sensing, air filtration) to expand our TAM.

Led the partnership development team for the Nest / smart home BU. Negotiated partnerships to integrate Google’s AI software and hardware into partners’ solutions, and sourced technologies to enhance the customer experience. I personally co-led the negotiation, technical integration and launch of a strategic partnership with ADT, one of the largest strategic deals done by Google. My team led the collaboration between Google, Apple and Amazon to establish the new de-facto smart home connectivity standard, Matter.

Nest reinvented boring things, like thermostats and smoke alarms, that are important for home safety, energy and comfort. I joined as an IC and grew to manage a BD team developing partnerships to reach more people, faster - to make their homes safer and more energy efficient. We closed many first-of-a-kind partnerships within the Telecom, Insurance, Home Security and Broadband verticals.

Intelligent Energy is a leading provider of fuel cell products for stationary power, automotive and consumer electronics applications. At IE I advised on partnerships to accelerate market adoption of IE's fuel cell products, especially in the consumer electronics space.

We created the Business Sustainability Network (BSN) to help large enterprises from a cross-section of industries collaborate and execute on sustainability projects. At BSN we worked with industry leaders like Apple, Shell and Tetra Pak on sustainability initiatives with the objective to achieve differentiation and resource efficiency.

More Magic was a venture backed mobile payments software & services company, enabling value transfers, prepaid top-ups, retail payments.. I was an investor in MoreMagic (via the Vision Capital fund) and stepped-in operationally to lead business development with strategic accounts, such as Ericsson, Samsung, Visa, First Data and PayPal. My work helped position More Magic as a growth leader in their space and the company was acquired by Oberthur Technologies in 2012.

Vision Capital was a $175 million venture capital fund focusing on Trans-Atlantic tech investments. I was involved in all aspects of running the firm; raising funds, sourcing deals, making investments, managing portfolio companies and creating liquidity. My main focus was deal sourcing, investing and portfolio management of companies originating from the Nordic region across mobile, communications, enterprise software and payment services.

Axis pioneered IP-based video surveillance solutions and is now the global market leader. I led business development in the US and we took Axis public on the Stockholm stock exchange. In my role, I let the formation of a new business unit for wireless networking products which was later spun-off into a separate entity, Aptilo Networks. I also worked on identifying and developing strategic partnership opportunities with major tech companies such as Cisco, HP, Sun, and Microsoft.
