CurrentResearcher at the world-leading Wood Science and Engineering Department at Luleå University of Technology, Skellefteå, Sweden, with a focus on developing machine learning and artificial intelligence systems using X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) imaging. Data collection, CT scanning, data processing, computation, etc., are all performed in-house at our facilities or in collaboration with industry partners, most notably, the partners behind the research programme CT Wood.CT scanning of wooden logs reveals the important internal knot structure and possible defects before sawing, which enables planning and optimisation of the use of the material in a way that is not possible by only scanning the outside of the log. The amount of data and the signal-to-noise ratio makes industrial implementation of CT scanning non-trivial. My colleagues and I are developing an AI framework better to utilise the incredible potential of industrial CT scanners.
