Lionel has 32 years of professional experience in Project Management in the Construction Industry, of which 15 years in South Africa, 14 years in the Middle East and 4 years in East Africa. Currently employed with “ARCH Emerging Markets Partners Limited” and based in Nairobi, Kenya since 2020 as Technical Projects Director, forming part of a team designing, building, and operating the first industrial scale Cold Chain business in East Africa. The business model is to build and operate 10 cold storage facilities in 5 countries over the next 4 years bringing 100,000 pallet positions of temperature-controlled storage to the East African market. Before working for ARCH, Lionel worked at Giolog DWC, initially as Construction Project Director for Logistics Facilities and since March 2018 he held the role of General Manager. He also spent 6 years with Al-Futtaim Group Middle East. Lionel started his career as Project Manager at Energy Property Developers in South Africa and served 2-years full-time, 18-years part-time in the South African Defence Force, specialising in Mechanised Infantry, serving as Battalion Second in Command and attaining the officer’s rank of “Major" in that time. Lionel is a construction specialist and since 2013 he has focused on logistics turnkey projects and in particular, project managing the build of cold storage facilities. He recently worked on four large cold storage facilities for international clients. He has a very good understanding of construction, Capex and related aspects.
