About Lior Kaplan

As part of my Open Source consulting company I help businesses get into the Open Source world. It can be the IT & Technology side of things (e.g. what to use, who to work with and how to get away from vendor locking) or working on Open Source policy / strategy and making it part of the business model (give back to community, position your services and products, even creating an Open Source project). I've been working in open source environments for more than 15 years. My experience is from being a Linux/UNIX sysadmin (mostly web, java and DB) and system architect. Later went on into doing integration (including installation and packaging) for various Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL/Centos and SLES) along side community work.Today, my main open source involvements are the Debian GNU/Linux, LibreOffice and PHP projects. But I'm working with PostgreSQL, Open Source GIS (e.g QGIS / GeoServer / PostGIS), and Python / Django based projects like CKAN and OpenEDX.

    I started contributing to the PHP project while working for Zend (the PHP company) handling build issues of various platforms and making sure Zend's fixes get back to the community. I'm also a member of the security group, handling Linux distributions coordination (when needed) as well as tracking CVE and making sure NEWS files and changelogs are aligned with them.     I've been involved with OpenOffice since 2008 doing OOo bug triage for Debian and moving upstream to handle OOo bugzilla issues around RTL and Hebrew support. I volunteered at the Isareli government project to improve OOo RTL and Hebrew support in order to make sure these fixes go back upstream.I've been with the TDF and LibreOffice from day 1 in 2010. With the change to LibreOffice the community work becase easy and I took lead about RTL support and Hebrew localization (with others).
